Obviously some finishes, like fireglo and mapleglo, can't hide any flaws in the wood, but how well does Burgundyglo cover up small cracks or repairs etc?
I'm thinking the same shade as the COY or very early 70s, the dark red (not eggplant). I believe Ruby is opaque, but is brighter and more metallic than BG?

Re: How well does Burgundyglo hide repairs?
Both the lighter and darker shades of BG do a pretty good job of hiding minor repairs if every effort has been made to minimize the color and surface differences of the repairs before the BG is applied. Even a grain difference from a patch can be pretty well concealed by BG. However, because BG is a transparent finish, close inspection will nearly always reveal the extent of the defect.
Specific circumstances may result in differing outcomes.
Ruby is opaque in its effect, and can do a better job of hiding defects if done properly. The old 80s/90s Ruby was a three stage plus clearcoat finish with a metallic basecoat. The new Ruby is a single stage synthetic pearl with clearcoat.

Re: How well does Burgundyglo hide repairs?
I had this exact discussion with Paul a few years back when I was having my 72/3 4001 restored. I went with Ruby due to issues with repairs and the "seepage" of the original Jetglo deep into the grain of the bass. The one-coat Ruby formulation Paul kindly provided is stunning.

Excellent, thanks for the info Paul and Evan.
I'll see what my project looks like after cracks have been fully repaired, hopefully I can get away with the lighter BG shade.

Collin, I don't know how wedded you are to BG, but depending on where the defects are you might want to also consider the dark red "Autumnglo" they used in the mid/late '60's. Towards the edges that's almost black and I'd say would hide just about anything...
Re: How well does Burgundyglo hide repairs?
Thanks Ed, these repairs are dead center though, so autumnglo would show I think.
