Great RICK reference for production numbers by year, model,

Post by RonLovesRic12strings »

I've noticed there's been some questions regarding the actual number of Rickenbacker guitars produced.

The reference book I recommend is "THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF RICKENBACKER GUITARS" by Richard R. Smith, a very comprehensive history, especially of pre-1985 RICKS.

Wildly controversial....don't believe any number in that book at all. Great pictures!

It's quite amazing the number of times owners of guitars which show up as having a production run of two or three, according to the book, end up seeing half a dozen more at a guitar show.

As said, nice photos, good (but outdated) text, but wildly inaccurate production information that understates output. The only fault of the author was to include this info before many of the records had been organized and consolidated in one location.

Thanks for the heads up.....I had no idea of the inaccuracies in this reference book.

Are there any accurate sources of production numbers for RICK guitars?

The annoying part is when people quote these figures when they're listing an old Rickenbacker up for sale..... "1 of 6 made that year!" :?

Hey, no worries....it would be hilarious if none of us hadn't known about that book (let alone memorized most of it..).

I love the Smith book...just don't go venturing into that section and you'll be fine. :)
