I loved April Wine back in the day and hardly anyone seemed to know about them.
Still whenever I mention them and some of their songs people look at me like I am nutz.

Re: APRIL WINE'S JIM CLENCH...
trying to get a better scan...in closeup, i see a j pickup under the surround,an old corroded aluminum tailpiece and possibly a carved surround to look vintage ? so pre- mid '72 ??? actually, that would have three dot's after the 12th. when was the last two dotters ? wish there was a pick of the headstock !!!

Re: APRIL WINE'S JIM CLENCH...
The surround looks like '63 era shape, and the bridge has modern saddles on it.

Re: A PRIL WINE'S JIM CLENCH...
i don't think the tail is long enough but might be mistaken. either a modded original aluminum to take the new bridge like i did, or he is a very corrosive man and also cut a gap tooth on a normal tailpiece or its a v63/64 tailpiece.
Re: APRIL WINE'S JIM CLENCH...
Here is Graham Griffith's '63 4001 with an almost identical surround.

Re: APRIL WINE'S JIM CLENCH...
you think this might be a '63 4000 ??? only cj-918 in the register matches the surround. the others shown have a squire surround. interesting that there are no '64 4000 basses in the register ??? the '65 looks questionable as to it being legit ?

that's the same publicity photo they sent to my buddy to use when he booked them at our local Casino. I'm still kicking my self for not going to that show.

There was no rock music in the house I grew up in (that I didn't bring in myself). The first rock song I remember hearing on the radio and liking was If You See Kay. About a year ago I got the joke.

Re: APRIL WINE'S JIM CLENCH...
ok...just go the lowdown on the rick in the promo. it did not belong to clench. they were doing a photo shoot and his basses were on the tourbus so he asked a buddy if he could borrow a bass and voila ! oct. '63 4000 purchased in '69 by the present owner. he said the pickup is long gone. i invited him by email to join up, so i'll let him introduce himself if he joins. this bass is in canada.
