U2
U2 appeared tonight 3rd Dec, on a BBC TV chat show here in the UK, performing three songs, two from there new album and there first ever single. During the new track, Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, The Edge used his old Red 330VP-12, even for the lead break.
They performed the same song on Saturday Night Live here in North America, and the Edge used the same guitar. Lots and lots of effects in the signal chain, but it still sounded like a Rickenbacker twelve. What piqued my interest was the lead the Edge played: he did it with a slide! The only person I've ever known to use a slide on a Ric 12 was Jeff Buckley. It's an interesting sound. Muddy Waters played blues on a twelve, too, but not a Ric twelve obviously.
