360/12V64

Post by type79 »

I have a 360/12V64 which I bought new in 1986 which has only a mono output jack rather than a Ric-O-Sound output. Most other 360/12V64s seem to have the Ric-O-Sound output as did George's. Any thoughts on why mine, and maybe others, had only a mono output jack?

Welcome to the forum, Jay! What a cool guitar. We'd love to see some pics, if you don't mind.

The earliest known 360/12V64 surfaced in 1984, and until about early 1988 came with Rick-O-Sound output standard. For a brief while in '88, a single mono jack was issued on the guitars, before making dual mono the standard from late '88 until the V series cease in 2001. The 360/12C63, its successor, comes standard with dual mono, too, however, the earliest models from December 2004-January 2005 accidentally came with Rick-O-Sound instead. If your guitar is from '86, then it should have come with ROS, so maybe it was special ordered with a single jack?

FWIW, I have a V64 from 1987 and it has ROS standard.

Thanks for the quick and informative reply.

I was incorrect about the purchase date. I have the original receipt and it is dated August 11, 1988 which supports your explanation of the mono jack. I have pics but don't know how to upload them.

Jake, it sounds like you know your stuff!
How would you like to write the definitive supplement/update to the R. Smith book?
Seriously, somebody should. And this is the kind of quality material that should be in it.

+2 Yep, Jake has some great knowledge on some of the finer details about certain Rickenbackers.
