Strings on Lennon's Casino

I'll be putting some money down on an Epiphone 1965 Lennon Casino replica this week (to go along with my new 325C58) & was wondering if John used flat wounds on his. My 325 is strung with Pyramids & even though I really dig them I'd like to be sure if I put them on the Casino I won't lose the same tone John achieved with his. Any ideas?

Hey. From what I've heard John used whatever was on hand and available on his Casino, mixing string types and gauges in odd combinations. He also wasn't known for being particularly diligent or disciplined about guitar maintenence & upkeep. So you can probably just put whatever you want on the guitar, & then play it through a silverface Twin (or plug straight into a mixing board and drive the channel slider all the way up.. har har), & there you'll be!

PS: Your Lennon '65 Casino is a re-issue, not a replica. YOur Casino is no less a Casino than is/was John's. Your's might even be a better instrument that is/was his, since his was a stock issue "mid -line" guitar (the Casino was not a "premium" model -- those were the Sheratons and Rivieras). Yours probably got more attention from the luthiers in Nashville than John's got from the Kalamazoo guys... Funny, eh?

I was actually just wondering about this myself, I've got flats on my 325 and will have them on my Tenny, but for some reason I think rounds would work better on a Casino. That's the next guitar I plan to get...I know no one knows for sure but I always got the impression that The Beatles switched to rounds around Revolver. Am I wrong? Like, 'She Said, She Said' just sounds too bright to be flats.

Hey. I have a set of flat 11s on my Casino, and it's great. If I find myself needing a bit more trebble I just crank the knob around (mine goes to 11, btw), and crank the volume as well, too.

Rounds seem to be less prone to feedback on hollow-bodies -- another thing to consider with string choice on a Casino.
