This isn't Chris Squire's regular RM1999 bass is it?

I can't believe I've never noticed the bass Chris is playing in this very early Yes video. Not his regular blonde RM1999 bass, this one's got speckled paintwork and really wide white "binding" (more like a wide edge stripe) .....

(FFWD to about 1:10)

Any ideas?

It is the same bass. In Chris' own words from the book:

“It was originally that red sunburst color (Fireglo), but I dressed it up with flowery appliqués and then a silver metallic adhesive paper with white borders. I got bored with that and took it to a refinisher (Sam Lee) who sanded it down and painted it in the cream color that is still on it today."

Also, notice that he was still using it in mono.

It's ALWAYS the bass player who's left out. The bass player doesn't even get the pretty girl's ugly girlfriend

Aaaah.... Nikki. Scottie is no slouch her own self, but I remember Nikki, too. Somewhere on one of my ancient cassettes, I have an interview with Chris Squire and Nikki. I think it's a Jim Ladd interview. It's mostly about Squire's goings-on at the time, but I remember Nikki spoke a bit, too. I still remember how the interview concludes - Nikki saying: "Is it oll off now?" in her thick English accent.
