330 Blueburst
Hello!
I am new to this forum, in fact it is the first time I have ever created a thread in a forum so this is new territory for me. I hope I am doing it right! Anyway, I am bassist who is moving into the world of six strings! I have come into some inheritance and want to spend it on something worthwhile and not a car or rent. My immediate thought was "Rickenbacker!". One of my favorite bands at the moment is Tame Impala who's front man plays a 330 Jetglow. I looked into the 330's and stumbled across the Blueburst. I immediately fell in love. This is the guitar I am going to spend my Nan's inheritance on! So I phoned my local stockist to see if they had it. "Your're going to have to wait about a year for that guitar mate, get one that's in stock would be my advice" was the reply I received. A year???!! WTF? Why so long? Is he right? I have emailed Rickenbacker to enquire but to no avail. So I have joined this forum to see if you guys and gals could shed some light on the matter. It would be greately appreciated. I am on the verge of spending over the odds to have a second hand one shipped over form the states. Oh yeah, I should have mentioned that I am residing in the UK...
Thankyou in advance
JC

Re: 330 Blueburst
Hi Josh! Welcome!
Blueburst was only available for order during 2005. Rickenbacker will not build any more Blueburst 330's for now or for the foreseeable future.
You're going to have to search the used market to find one, but there are plenty of them out there -- this shouldn't be too difficult a task!
The best place to start would be right here on this forum -- try placing a Want To Buy ad in our Marketplace section.
Good luck!

Brilliant! I thought that might be the case. Thankyou for the info and I shall place an ad right away!
Thanks again

Welcome to the forum Josh!
On the subject of waiting, aside from the fact that Blueburst is not being made, Rickenbacker's order backlog is something like 18 months. So, if a dealer doesn't have something in stock, there will be a wait on it.
Many people don't realize that Rickenbacker is a very small company with something like 60 employees total...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Still? For a 330?cjj wrote:On the subject of waiting, aside from the fact that Blueburst is not being made, Rickenbacker's order backlog is something like 18 months.
Re: 330 Blueburst
I don't have any sort of actual production info from RIC, it's just what someone from RIC posted on a forum a few months ago. It wasn't for any specific model though, could be shorter for "bread and butter" models...sloop_john_b wrote:Still? Oh, it's shorter alright.
No way does it take 18+ months to wait for a 330/360, 4003 etc. I think the wait (if there even is an 18-month backlog at all..) is on more small-quantity, labor-intensive models like the 381 and vintage reissues.

Just looked at the data . . . and here are the last outstanding order dates for those models, meaning that's at least how far we're backlogged:
4003 JG 6/30/2011
330 FG 1/12/2011
360 JG 8/22/2012
381V69 JG 10/6/2011
That doesn't even include the time until the next production run is scheduled.
FYI, even as we increase production, the order book is once again increasing, especially from Asia and continental Europe.
Re: 330 Blueburst
I think we in the U.S tend to forget that the percentage of RIC's production that is exported was 60% a few years ago, and that percentage is likely growing.
