My first shorty!

Post by jps »

I just played this guitar earlier this evening:

http://www.guitarcenter.com/In-Store-Vi ... 3625730161

At first I thought it would be unplayable to me, but I got used to the really short scale after just a couple of minutes and was actually able to play some things easier than usual. Hmm........... 8)

The guitar was in very nice condition, and it seems to me that some of the parts are '60s bits that were put on that guitar, like the tuning keys, and some pieces for the bridge, possibly. Discuss!

Looks to me like a B Series 320 reissue. The year (1982) is right for that and seems to have the reissue features.

Good score!

Link does not work... Did you save the picture? It sounds like it is a B Series from 1982 or 1983

Congratulations, Jeff! You've discovered the wonderfulness of short scale. But don't be broadcasting the news so much or there won't be any more shorties available for me! :)

Did you buy it?

Woody: Try it; you'll like it! 8)

Jeff: That seems like a reasonable price, and better if it is a B series. :)

And if a 325 is too dear, you can pick up something like this for considerably less:

Coolness factor is off the chart. 8) 8) 8)

No neck binding, dot inlays, three pickups...can anyone point out the differences between the 320 and the 325 model?

The tailpiece (325=vibrato)

Photo for those who can't open the link:
320 JG B Series 1982.jpg
And prices on some recent comparable sales from Register Pricelist: http://www.rickresource.com/register/in ... =5&lefty=0

Looks like $2500 is about average for recent sales of this model; B Series in original condition is somewhat rare. You could probably get a non-reissue 320 for less.

Wow, that's it?
I rarely use a vibrato. Darn it, why doesn't Ric produce this 320 model anymore!?!

The current price looks OK to me, but even if it were a couple hundred over price I wouldn't let that stand between me and my destiny….
Sure there may be some current re-issues out there for less, but remember that the B's were in a way, the last of the old style of construction..

Not in the market for one of those though….

Congrats! Looks cool! 8)

I will admit that I find the 320s and 325s to be pretty intriguing to me. Their short scale certainly gives them a different vibe than 360. But for me, they would have to cost less, since I doubt a 320 or 325 would take the place of my 360.

I was impressed with how thick the fingerboard is on it, a full 1/4", at least; the edges were not rounded off much at all showing just how thick it is.

Ellen, I did not buy it so go for it, if you want.

Thanks, but I just got another 360 (the 4th one I've had over the years - hopefully it'll be the last one [I'm sick of selling or trading guitars, to buy other ones!]), so I think I'll stand pat at this time. :)
