Darrell Jones' first Lakland was a Skyline Osborne that he bought just because he liked it. After the guys at Lakland found out, they built him a custom bass. The day I visited, it was hanging in the setup room. Darrell could have bought any bass in the world and he chose the Skyline. The Skyline series is pretty amazing.

The chief builder at Lakland (Karl) is is very cool guy and a gifted luthier. He showed me some projects and prototypes that will probably never see the light of day. All of them were amazing. I was also allowed access to the factory collection that includes some prototypes and one-offs including a one-of-a-kind Lakland guitar and the very first Lakland bass. The original headstock shape was very close to the Fender headstock (a bit too close for Fender). There was a T-Bird shaped bass that was built for Entwistle just before he went to Vegas
. It now belongs to the guy who owns Dude Pit.

got a pic of me with the new shector - it played well. I panicked a couple of times (the 5 strings closer together is hard to get used to), but in general it played well for the 7-8 songs I used it on. I gotta admit, it's got a nice sound to it. Played the Ric most of the night though.
