Neck Finish any ideas?

Post by scotty »

Ok so i am a sweaty mess
So ive been playing the hell out of the 71 of late and ive noticed bubbling in the lacquer, small bubbling, that is soft to the touch and can be scratched off with my fingernail easily..SooooOOoOoooo what should i do? Ok well i scratch X`ed the neck and Zymoled it to smithereens. Now what should i do carry on playing it and wear that neck down with love and affection OR is there some tips out there to stop it getting worse.I have to say im not gonna stop playing it and also its a keeper so it wont be getting sold so im not to precious about wear n tear.

Hi Scott

One answer to this sort of problem might be to take a leaf out of Scott Devine's book and wear a woolly glove on the fretting hand. I sweat bucketloads when playing live and am actively considering this.

I'm with Collin, wear it down! (Some people pay extra for that stuff)

Wipe down with naphtha after you play, to remove sweat and oil. Eat more veggies and lay off the Polish moonshine.

Let it go. The neck of my '66 365 has no finish from the second fret through to the sixteenth. I like the feel of it so much that I asked Paul W. to leave it that way when he gave its neck a reset and refret.
