Hey Squire fans!

Just wondering if anyone (or everyone) has checked out some of the offerings of 'grail' material that has come down the pipe recently. The most recent I'm thinking of would be the Original Syn package - I received mine this past week, and gave it a quick listen (albiet while driving a noisy tractor trailer ;p), and it's not too bad. Even better (IMO) was Pete Banks' Can I Play You Something? from a few years ago. I picked that up a few months ago and really enjoyed it - there are things that I'd already heard, of course (Syn singles like Grounded, etc.), but it included some demos and final versions of things I didn't even know existed, such as Get Yourself Together (Mabel Greer's Toyshop) with Squire on lead vocals. Some pretty neat stuff that I'd certainly recommend. :-)

On a slightly related note, I had a bunch of Yes related 'rarities' on cassette - most of it I do have on various CDs but not all. Wouldn't ya know it had to be *that* tape that the player decided to eat. :-\ The main one that I had to replace was the one tune by jazz saxophonist Eddie Harris that Squire guested on, and an old Coke commercial (can't recall if I have that as anything other than MP3).

The only Yes rarities I have were re-released on the Drama re-issue, those were the demos from those sessions. There is one version of Tempus Fugit where they are playing it live that just blows me away. It's like, ok, 1,2,3,4, be amazing!

Christopher--where did you find that stuff? I haven't had too much time lately, so would appreciate a link or store to check for that product. Thanks!

Steve, did you know they reissued everything up to 90125 (I'm assuming you have the Rhino remastered/expanded Drama)? Some interesting stuff, particularly from CTTE forward.

Greg - I've been "collecting" for quite a while, so alot of what I have isn't store merchandise. ;)
Unless of course you're talking about my first post - if that's the case...

I put up an MP3 of that Coke comercial just for fun. Be warned that it was kinda lousy quality before the MP3 conversion, but I think it's pretty neat. It's a bit of a mystery piece - some think it's 'solo' Jon Anderson, some think it's totally unrelated...IMO, it sounds alot like very early Yes (or at least Anderson/Squire), but supposedly JA says he doesn't remember it happening at all. Just wondering if everyone (or anyone) who wanted the Coke commercial had gotten it, as I'll be taking it down pretty soon (limited space etc). I have other things that some may not have heard before (as an example, '71 era cover of Rascals' It's Love) - of course, short Yes tunes are in the minority, so they're all byte hogs, even in MP3 mode. ;)

I'd love to hear them Christopher. I've recently purchased the limited edition "Original Syn" package off of the Chris Squire site and I can recommend that. The Syn sounds a little dated but I like the direction they were going in, and it reminded me a little bit of some of the stuff the Zombies recorded on Oddessy and Oracle. I love that time period anyway, and I would recommend it to anyone who is a Squire fanatic like I am....

Gene, if you liked Original Syn, then I'd heartily endorse the Peter Banks CD to sort of 'round off' the collection.

BTW - what's your opinion of the CS interview CD? I'm a huge fan and all, but I was kinda disappointed that he couldn't (apparently, and just my opinion) stay away from the cocktails for an hour or so. :-| Seemed kind of all over the map, and there was even one question that he gave a totally unrelated response to. If not for Nardelli, it might've been a minor trainwreck. You can even hear the ice clinking around in his glass at times. :-\

BTW - shoot me an e-mail if ya like - when I get a bit of time, I can fix ya up with something. E-mail's in profile.

Are you familiar with "Two Sides Of Peter Banks"? This album is from 1973 and features Peter, Jan Akkerman, Ray Bennett, Phil Collins, Steve Hackett, Mike Hough and John Wetton! I picked it up decades ago for $1.99.

I've heard of it, but never pulled the trigger, and I don't really know why. Sounds like a great line up - how is it?

I just picked up the Steve Hackett Tokyo Tapes DVD - it's pretty good (have only given it a quick run through), but Wetton, IMO, seems a bit "disconnected" throughout the performance. It's hard for me to describe, and maybe it's just a weird perception that only I'm getting. Image

I haven't listened to it in many years and my turntable is packed away. I do remember it being very good, however. Go ahead, pull the trigger!

As you guys have stated, Chris Squire has been working with the "Original Syn" with Nardelli and company. Word has it, they are already working on their second release. Alan White has a new band also, called White. There are talks of an up-coming tour featuring, The Syn, White and Conspiracy (Billy Sherwood + Chris Squire) all on the same ticket. Yea, I would see that! Being a huge Yes fan, I guess we need to take them when we can. Who knows what they have for future plans. They have already basically said a new album was out of the question. I had the privilege to meet Chris on the last tour. Wasn't very talkative. He's still the "Man".
