Welcome to the RRF!
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: 4004cii
I suppose the new 4004's have a play-feel closer to the 4003, but just don't expect to get a 4003 tone out of it. I can get close to my 4001 with my Laredo, but the 4004 always has a deeper low end.
I can't say it's a bad choice, but too many have been disappointed by 4004's because they "don't sound like my 4003". Good luck, and welcome!

Re: 4004cii
The stock electronics are the main reason for that, with pots that range from 175K-330K, and an .47uF tone cap. 500K pots with coil shorting ability and an .022uF tone cap bring the tone a lot closer to a 4001/3, while retaining the inherent quietness and punch of the excellent HB1 pickups.edski wrote:I can't say it's a bad choice, but too many have been disappointed by 4004's because they "don't sound like my 4003".
Re: 4004cii
I didn't buy my 4004s because I wanted them to sound like my 4001.
Re: 4004cii
I think Dane's mod makes My 4004 trio sound closer to what i think a Rick Bass SHOULD sound like....however,whenever I play any of my 4004's,and switch over to the 4000,the "clank differential" is HUGE.
i imagine a least a part of that is the set neck, but mostly the pickup, which is just a screamer....
