Henny, as I touched on in another thread, I played the Marquee several years ago with an Ampeg preamp and a mere 150W Laney power amp (admittedly it was through 2 4x10s) and I didn't get the volume past 3; in fact if I remember rightly I actually had to turn down part way through the gig. BTW, I'm becoming more and more intrigued by the Cheyenne Is as well. Jaymi, I'll have to see if I can get down too when you come over. Gotta try that Cheyenne! And you could try the 4000 too! BTW, sorry I missed your call; did you get my e-mailed reply?

BTW Bob, one rig I forgot tube wise was I once plugged into my old guitarist's rack gear (Marshall JMP1 and 200W stereo tube power amp) and put it through my old 4x10; it was incredible!!! Probably the most awesome bass sound I've ever had (which kind of scotches my anti-tube feelings
). In fact thinking about it, now that I've got my own JMP1 I could always keep my eye out for the matching power amp, although the 100W version would probably be enough for me...hmmmm....

There is a '73 4000 for sale at my local music store. I dont really know how rare these are to be honest. Its up for £899 and is quite well used.

Keith, the price is about right for a shop bought 4000 in the UK. My 73 with a non-original (but very cool) scratchplate, possibly in slightly worse cosmetic condition (although it's actually nowhere near as bad as it sounds when I describe it! Its nearer 7/7+1/2 out of 10) was £795, but if you go to London you're looking around £1k/£1100.I suggest you try it though; I don't know if mine's a freak but I only tried it on the off chance and it scared the pants off me; it was twice as loud as my 72 4001. I couldn't get the money out fast enough, and previously they'd done nothing for me. And if you try it and don't like it, you've not lost anything.
