To each his own....That's what I always say...I can listen to both but currently listen to neither. A Rick can be used in ANY musical setting and that is the fun part.

Please....."IMHO" is appropriate before/after a comment like that....

Probably many of the performers that YOU like today were very much influenced by The Beatles and DON'T think their music is boring...

by the way.....I enjoy MANY of the "newer" groups and their music, but I wouldn't put any of "ahead" of Beatles music

Well IMHO, I think IMHO precedes everyone's posts whether they take the time to type it or not

There are plenty of bands that I respect and appreciate for their musicianship or for breaking boundries in their day but if I hear them on the radio I can't change the station fast enough. I find them boring or even annoying....but that is just me. I don't dislike the Beatles or Rush (I don't dislike any band/musical style) I just don't happen to find either one interesting so why would I listen to it....just different tastes.

Hey Chris, you're right. IMO should be used. Everyone has different musical taste. Just because I don't get into them doesn't mean they suck. It's not my kind of music. Just like Rush sucks to many people. Music is very subjective. One man's fun is another man's hell. That is what makes music great. There is something that reaches everyone. The one thing I can say is that anyone playing a Rick, no matter what strings, no matter what model, no matter what sound, they still play a Rick. Any Rick is good.

Chris,
I always assume an opinion expressed is a personal one, whether stated or not.

I argee wholeheartedly that their influence was and is still very far reaching, whether you like them personally or not doesn't detract from the impact they had.

BTW, I think in this catagory, both Elvis, and Bill Hailey are also vastly underrated. Sadly too many remember Elvis's latter days, and not the impact he had on popular music.

Like Brian said, anything that is said in this forum (i've found), IMO weather stated or not is always there. I haven't found a confrontational jerk in this forum. Everyone seems cool and interesting. Everyone has different tastes. That's what's great. Different tastes,with one common bond, we all love Rickenbackers.

You make a good point, if you don't like the music you can change the channel.

That said for those of us who grew up in the UK in the 60's ... there was NO channel to change to !!! BBC radio was it.

Wasn't until late 60's early 70's that Pirate Radio, (who remembers Radio Caroline) and then Radio Luxembourg offered some semblance of an option in listening.

No prob guys....just that sometimes a comment will get my hackles up , you know, like a dog defending his territory...

I just hear stuff like that ALL THE TIME from many of the younger musicians I run into and I would just like to sit them down and give them the old "HEY! If you would've grown up with them..." line......

You guys know what I mean...

Talk about choice....I've recently gotten satellite radio(Sirrius) and there is even a 24 hour a day Elvis station to listen to if you wish.
I'm rather fond of the heavier stations but also find myself oddly drawn to the Bluegrass channel....my playing seems quite pale/lame compared to what is being hammered out on a banjo....pretty freakin' impressive.

And back on topic....I'd certainly like to see GL wield the RIC again....but it'll probably never happen...

Chris, I'm 37 years old. I Love Rush, I know that they had a profound influence on me. I bow down to them as musicians. I feel that God blessed the muscial community when these guys got together. Most musicians understand their contributions, however not all like them. I know that. Heck, there's really nothing that ruffles my feathers anymore. I wish there was, life would be alittle more exciting.

Chris, Like you said, sadly, it probably will never happen. I can always dream and hope. Sometimes miracles do happen. I just wish I knew why he is so against them today, or at least why he just refuses to play them. Alex went back to some of his old Guitars, why not Geddy?

Just kidding guys as I couldn't resist the puns! I'm with you on this one though Chris, I tend to get a little defensive too when it comes to The Beatles, but we all share a common bond....the love of RICs, and that can't be all bad!
