Man, I have been waiting for a Ric shortscale. But at that price it will never happen.
Too bad.

Seems like the new runs the last couple years have been unobtainum.
I wonder why these odd runs?
Maybe certain stores custom order?

90th anniversary - 90 each of these models. RIC did the same for the 75th anniversary; 75 each, of the models offered.

About 1974 I bought an old mapleglow Capri and had the neck removed and a 30" scale, varnished fretless rosewood fingerboard bass neck put on it. I think at the time I paid something like $225 for the Capri and another couple hundred for the luthier's work and the parts to convert it and do a full refin. It wasn't totally successful as a bass, compared to my fretless Les Paul, but like this new one, it was a real looker.

Eventually it got sold off when selling old toys to pay for new ones and unfortunately, I don't even have a picture of it - except for this one. At the extreme right side of the photo you can just see a sliver of it. Also, check out the neck and headstock on that Telecaster behind the mandolin player. Guess what happened to the original Capri neck...

The 4003 CB SPC MB (aka CMB) wasn't. My dealer only got 5 of the 27.

The moment I saw the first picture it was a forgone conclusion. Just ordered mine from Long and Mcquade - only the second person in Canada to do so!

Good God, that is a cool bass.

Way too rich for my blood but someone give it a happy home, please.

I had to do it. I'll give it a good home. It will even get stage time, if we ever start playing again.

I've pre-ordered mine. As far as the price goes, it's better than money in the bank, the price will appreciate even before I receive it. I've owned over a dozen RICs in my life, but never a bass, this will compliment my 1959 Capri 365 perfectly!

I'm not sure why an "S" version of this would be out of the question in the future.

Either way, kudos to RIC for continuing to experiment.

I’ve thought of this also. A ‘plane jane’ version... dot markers, no binding / (thinking) RM - 4005s

Is it? I've read elsewhere that it's a 30½" short scale.
