Chris Squire Bass restoration video
No affiliation. He doesn;t restore it on the video. Just shows the unbelieveable abuse this thing took.
Just thought you all would be interested.
I have no idea what on earth happened to this bass.

I’m curious to know what happened too.
You would think the high cost of replacing Ricky basses would stop someone from doing so many irreversible mods to the bass.
Or, maybe that's what drove it.

Oooft! That was PAINFUL to watch. I wish the guy the very best of luck with whatever he attempted, but in all honesty, if that came into my possession, I wouldn't even try to "restore" it. I'd take it for a walk in the woods and shoot it. Poor thing...

Re: Chris Squire Bass restoration video
I'd put a bridge, T-rods and tuners on it and nut and see if I could at least get a straight, playable neck out of it (if the frets are still good).
If I could then I would let my grandkids hand paint it, leave the rosewood and neck unfinished, and install the electronics and pguard and be done with it.

Phew! When I first read the title of this thread, I thought that someone was restoring CHRIS SQUIRE'S BASS and what terrible shape it was in. But I'm relieved to see it was just a 4001CS that was tortured and disfigured.

There seem to be no follow up videos on YouTube. Too bad; I'd like to see the restoration steps.

Re: Chris Squire Bass restoration video
In the comments I asked about what state it is in now. Hopefully he will reply.
Re: Chris Squire Bass restoration video
Agreed, that just pains me to see the abuse.
How many pickguards and pickups have been on this poor beast?
I mean it looks like it was purposefully destroyed.
You should suggest Larry to the guy, unless he has the skills, I predict things will get worse.

I applaud the interest and effort. Hard to imagine some of the damage, but it deserves to live.

...and it would be more of a resurrection than a restoration.... He seemed so optimistic in the video. I hope he gave it a try.
