Oddly enough, I have some familiarity with such so-called "ringing gels". A former company I worked for had acquired a small Michigan-based company called Mediventures, Inc., and one of its drug products under development was called Flogel, a material intended to be used during surgery to prevent or minimize internal scar tissue formation. It contained Poloxamer 407 and was, at room temperatrure, a ringing, non-flowing (solid) gel; strangely, at 5 C, it was a free-flowing liquid, making it a thermoreversible substance as well.

I found that patent in the examiners' collection at least 20 years ago at the USPTO. I should have copied the whole thing. I'm wondering what they use as the gel in the patent. I can't seem to find a whole copy of that patent. Maybe I could contact an examiner or someone at the USPTO to see if anyone still has those collections. Right now the examiners are all working at home because of the coronavirus.

Hey John, I did a little digging on Japanese patents/search possibilities, and found the patent through the Japan Patent Office's PlatPat (J-PlatPat) platform.

I will come back provide some detail as to how I figured out how to find/access it.

JoeMcMahon I actually ended up doing my final middle school project of the course Physics about this back then. The results (which are however in Dutch) can be found on http://www.wmmusic.nl/pws/. The final thing I ended up building (pictures and schematics are in the PDF, as well as frequency-responses) ended up not working as well as hoped, but it was a very interesting project. I am still trying to sort through the steps I used to get to the Japanese patent at the JPlan-Pat website. Sometimes I can find it again, other times, using what I think are the same steps, I can't get to it.

I found two JP22642 patents on the Japanese patent website, but both of those don't seem to be the same patent.
