I'll leave it here anyway. It played and sounded very nice. It has a wide range of tones. Being so close to the bridge, the treble pickup is very growly. i'd like to put a pickup that close to the bridge on my other Ricks, like a 4002 or 4004LK.

Concerning a 4002, which I have one, the pickups positions are derived from 60's J-bass positions. Then you take the difference in the scale length, 3/4 inch, divide that by 2, with 3/8 inch taken out at each end. That is how the pickup positions were determined. This puts the bridge pickup in essentially J-bridge '70's position, and the neck pickup essentially in P-position.

I took my 4002 and held it face to face with a J-bass with 60's position pickups to confirm this: the bridge saddles on the 4002 are 3/8 inch closer to the pickups and the nut is 3/8 inch closer to the body to adapt the 34 inch scale to 33 1/4 inch scale while retaining the relative pickups placements.

Yup! :D

In the more modern era, a company who does similar as to pickup location/spacing is Alembic on many of their models. :D
