Higains and HB1 swap from 620 to 330, need input and thoughts

Post by RicUpNorth »

I have a few Rics. My most recent purchase was a '67 335. (330 with vibrato). It had mostly original parts, but the pickups were changed out to the HB1 humbuckers. I do really like how they sound, and the guitar is amazing. I also have an '18 620, that I put early 90's higains into. Again, pickups sound far better than the '18's to me, and it is a great guitar.

I am curious about swapping the pickups in the two, thinking that the higains may tame some 330 brightness, and the humbuckers might add some sparkle to the 620 (also, bringing the 335 closer to what it would have been. stock).

Anybody here have thoughts or input? I know you are all much wiser than I!

If you like the way the guitar sounds, don't mess with it.

Most people want the brightness in a 330, that's the main ingredient of the sound. I'd even recommend getting a pair of toasters for the '67.

But pickups are only one factor in a guitar's sound. You won't completely change it by swapping those out, not 100%
