Source for Thomastiks for 12 string

Post by 82360 »

Does anyone know a current source for sets of TI flats for 12 strings, other than ordering individual strings from juststrings.com?

That was an “eye opening” experience. I looked for them using my ole haunts, and ‘nada” nothing could be found. There are acoustic 12-string sets from Thomastiks available at Sweetwater, but not for electrics. I’ll keep looking, and let you know if I come up with anything.

I went ahead and ordered a pieced together set from JustStrings.com...kinda expensive, but all Thomastiks I've used last a long long time

I reached out to Thomastik and they said that they are in the process of packaging a set specifically for Rics, but have been held up with printing supply

The single strings have the following article numbers:

P10/P10
P13/P13
JS20/P10
JS25/P13
JS35/JS20
JS44/JS25

That is great news! I was searching for some earlier this week, to no avail.

In the interim, I found some Flatwound stainless 12 string electric sets by Curt Mangam. I decided to give them a try but may use them on my Gretsch Country Gent 12 string instead of my Rickenbackers. They have a couple of different sets but the one I bought is Historic stainless flatwound guitar strings in gauges 10-10-14-14-17p-9-26w-12-36-17p-46-26. I may have to use another .10 for the octave G but the rest look similar to the standard Rickenbacker 12 string set (I know those are rounds).I guess that these are not nickel wound since they are described as stainless in the description. Still worth a try I reckon. Fingers crossed.

I am revisiting this thread and the Curt Mangam set of Flatwounds since I decided to put them on my 1993+ 12 string that is getting new replacement tuners and a 12 saddle bridge installed this weekend. I used to use the POTR sets of TI but I’ve been unable to locate any lately. I’m hoping they will work out.

I finally got the 1993+ setup with all new replacement tuners from Rickenbacker and a set of Curt Mangan 12 string flatwounds. These are stainless steel flatwounds and not nickel. So far, I really like them and these might be a good alternative to TIs until they are readily available again. https://www.curtmangan.com/10-46-flatw ... uitar-set/. I replaced the octave G .9 with another .10. They also make a lighter set but I wanted to try and stay close to the Rickenbacker gauges. The new tuners make all the difference in the world on this guitar.
