Strap button placement on 481

Post by mindhive »

I’m wondering if it is advisable/possible to place the strap button on a 481 in one of the screw holes on the neck plate. I have had the guitar for years now, but oddly never quite realised until now how the placement of the button on the horn gets in the way of high barre chords when I’m standing up.

If I simulate a different placement, that issue goes away completely, and the instrument feels easier to play. I know that you would not want to do this with the 4003 bass, because of neck dive, but the 481 is neither as long or as heavy at the top.

Any thoughts from the experts?

You won’t be able to fit the factory strap button there (the machine bolt size is far too wide and a different thread than the wood screw in the neck).

But you could get another type of strap button, such as a Fender or aftermarket and run one of the neck screws through it at the neck plate.
