Macca Halftime
It appears the playlist was gone by his 2002 Driving USA tour. I checked the DVD and it is not present on the Hofner. I went back further to the 1997 documentary In the World Tonight, and it appears to have been removed by then as well. In 1997 you can see the tape mark on the bass, but by 2002 it looks like it had been cleaned away. Maybe this is the time when the Hofner was refinished?

I think I mentioned that earlier. He may have just put another clear coat over it. Regardless, I think the playlist has been gone for several years.

The information you produced on the playlist is commendable - Good job! I think the Hofner buffed out well and has never been clear coated -- only my opinion. The guys in the band or his tech would have been very vocal. Also I firmly believe that Elderly would have even said "Are you sure you want to do this."

All I'm saying is, if it is refinished or not, its value is not diminished. It's PAUL's HOFNER. The value of it is in the owner and the history of the bass, not if it is the original finish or not. It could be the most valuable bass in existance.
Could this one be a second?

Here is a TV guide cover from Nov '02, and the setlist has already been removed. The bass looks like it has been thoroughly cleaned---even the fretboard looks in beautiful shape.
Good shot:

Nice shot Andrew. I forgot about that picture. Like I said earlier, it appears the playlist was gone in 1997.
