Hey, everybody, England's Simon Mole has joined the forum. See "Was there ever a 4004Cii 8-string" thread.

Who's Simon Mole? The fellow who has probably the largest collection of Rick basses. Great to have him here@

Hey Simon! Good to hear from you at last! I've been drooling over your collection for some time, both on Bjorn's site and in the Dec 03 issue of "Guitar" (like you I'm UK based). It appears you and I share a preference for blue Ricks (although I'm clean out of azure and midnight blue at the moment), and yes, I loved Paul Gray in the Damned too! You have in your collection what is probably my dream Rick, the 72 (?)azure with full width MOP inlays etc. I believe a couple of Forum members are also lucky enough to possess these beauties, although I haven't seen them yet. Lucky man! If you ever want to sell it.....seriously (as I know you never will)what is it like? I love those pre-73s at the best of times, but azure.....welcome to the Forum anyway, and if you ever feel like letting a fellow UK Forum member view some of your wonderful collection you can put me down as first in line! (it'll be a BIG line...)

Hello Shaun! You remember the collection magazine article! (fame at last!!! now I'm to old to enjoy it...) and a fan of Paul Gray too - have you seen his website? its really good, great stories and plenty for gearheads like us all. He was the man who made me buy my first Rick, an Azureglo 76 for... £275!!! (it makes you weep now...) He even wrote "rickenbackers rule!" on a Damned EP for me! The checkerbound azureglo is great to play (sorry, but it is!) and the binding is really striking against the blue. Mine's in pretty good condition (save for a tiny wear spot by the bridge - spookily similar to one on my checkerbound fireglo...conspiracy!)email me if you're in sussex and want to stop by and talk rickenbackers - hope you find an azureglo soon, jeez, out of azureglos - I wouldn't wish that on anybody!!!!!!

I liked the Damned a lot, grew up with all of that music, my sister use to work for them for a while! he's a good bassist, one of my best mates Stan Stammers was from the same era, he was bassist with The Straps, then Theatre of Hate and Spear of Destiny! That was a great time for music, The Jam, The Clash, The Undertones, The Buzzcocks and the Pistols! Its not so fun now music wise dont you think!
