Lennon/Mccartney Songs........

Post by roadrunners »

.....Just read this

The awkward subject of the Lennon McCartney credits on our songs was also put down to Heather’s influence over me but this actually originated at the time of the Beatles Anthology in 1997 when I, foolishly perhaps, asked for my name to come in front of John’s on the one song, Yesterday. The request was turned down and even though I didn’t see why at the time, it’s something that I don’t have a problem with anymore. But it was plainly before Heather’s time and she therefore couldn’t have had anything to do with it.

------Letter from paul

Im very happy that he dosent want to change the names now

Yes, I think that would have come off as being very egotistical as everyone already knows it's his song. Maybe he doesn't realize how big he really is, how well known he is, it must be hard to get perspective on yourself when you're one of the Beatles.

Here is the song credits from Back In The U.S. from 2002, listing McCartney/Lennon.

I wouldn't put unquestioned faith in much that Sir Paul says or writes. He seems to have mastered the art of self-serving promotion and revisionist history. If Ringo dies first, I give him two weeks to start changing performance credits to Paul McCartney backed by the Beatles.
You want to put that where?

It is too bad he can't just rest on his laurels, as that would be enough. For some sad reason, he thinks he has something to prove.

Think his wishes were strictly egotistical. It's sure not for the consumer who buys sheet music or a disc with the composers name on it. Half the time you need a magnifying glass just to see who wrote it anyway. And in most cases no one cares. They just know it's The Beatles.

I always figured that who ever sang it wrote it with The Beatles pretty much, especially Lennon and McCartney. I think Lennon-McCartney was set up for publishing. If I wrote 95% of a song like Hey Jude or Let it Be I suppose I'd want every one to know too, but we already do, maybe that's for non-musicians who would not realize something like that. But then again like a previous poster said most people don't care who wrote the song, they just know it's the Beatles and that's all they care about.

I think that the back in U.S cd credits dosent really apply in this matter....I think it only applies if the Lennon/McCartney name is on Beatle albums. He can do whatever he wants as long as Johns name is on his own album....make sense? i hope so.

Yeah, it makes sense, it's just remarkable to think of such a titanically talented man being so petty and small....

These are the things he thinks about?

Get over it....

I think we all need to look at the Introducing the Beatles Album. McCartney/Lennon.

Also this isn't the first time. On the Wings Over America album it was also credited McCartney/Lennon. I think he does just to **** off Yoko. Thats ok with me. If she had it her way it would be Yoko backed by the Beatles. Her problem is that John is dead and Paul isn't. I think she has cheapened the Lennon name. The reissue RIC is just one example. John never would have done that. Just my thoughts. Those two hate each other and they will always be at each others throats. I could probably go on, but its not my place to defend Paul. Funny though how he always seems to be right in the end.

You know I've had several different copies of that album now for about 40 years and have never noticed that before. I believe that Yoko has been a symbol of but was not the cause of the sickness that broke up The Beatles.
Although I must admit she is a very easy target.

I'm not saying Yoko was the cause of the breakup, but she is the cause of a lot of pettineess now.
