Nolan,
I would bet your bass is a 4003SB model. This was one of the 3 guitars in the 'B-Series', before the V-series was introduced in the mid-1980s. This was Ric's first attempt at a 'vintage series models' (read:Beatles' guitars). They were a split between vintage and modern parts. For instance, they all had chrome top knobs and R tailpieces, but toaster pickups. The tell-tale mark is the ROS output jack, as most all, if not all 4001S/4003S were mono, and all the 4003SB models were all stereo. Here's a link to a description from Bjorn's Ric page. http://www.rickbeat.com/modelslibrary/4003sb/4003sb.htm

Its a good theory, but my bass came with a split pickguard and a high output in the neck and bridge, and silver top knobs. The tuning gears were originally grovers as well. I think my bass was just an accident.

Yeah you'd think. But nope, we played "Twist and Shout" for a TV commmercial for an upcoming show, and "Yellow Submarine" for a project in the future. Believe me, I was pushing for it but "the powers that be" didn't go for it.

Hey Ronn, do you guys happen to play "Unfinished Words" in your Rutles band? I worked most of it out on acoustic guitar the other day, but I don't know if I got it all correct, and a few bits are missing. I listened to the second Rutles CD all last week, because it was stuck in my car CD player. I guess worse things could happen, but that song really stuck in my head!

Ronn, did the coppers stop your "rooftop" performance? Nice fireglo BTW.
