I've got some pics from the confluence to post but I have to change the file size to post. I was overwhelmed by the volume and diversity of imstruments there. It was great to be able to talk to Mr.Hall as well as all of the very cool people there. Everything was available to be played with a total lack of egos. I wish I'd known there was a factory tour on Friday. I'd have played hookie from work for sure.

Yeah, it's very cool and it's not even finished. It was light in weight for a double neck.

Very nice, but I would rather see the bass on the bottom, like Rutherford's.

Except for 2 of the basses belonging to Jim Glen and 5 basses of mine, the rest of this impressive collection of Ricks seen here belongs to Gary. This is before anyone else showed up with their guitars.

This trans blue 4004Cii of Erik Kutzler's should have been on a stand, it's way too pretty to have been left laying in it's case on the floor to be displayed. There were many nice instruments displayed like that.


Dane made this short scale 5 string from a 3000 bass. For a short scale, it had a pretty good B string focus. In fact when I plugged it into my SWR amp, the anp was barely on 1, and when I played the B string, it got the attention of most of the people in the room.

I've got to say, I don't know if anyone else has yet, but how cool of John Hall and Kenny Howes to stop by and celebrate with all of you, and to give a tour to boot? COME ON!! WAY over and above the call of duty!

Here's Joey playing my custom fretless 3000. Joey learned that a 10% shorter scale resulted in 10% faster playing as shown in this pic.

I took this pic to show the different approach RIC and I took to a double neck. The key to lightening mine was making the bridges even with each other instead of the last frets, thereby losing a lot of heavy maple. All routing was
1 1/4" deep. I thought about putting the guitar on top but since bass is my primary instrument, I felt it was more easily played on top. The "F slash" makes a perfect thumbrest.

Wow, Gary, those factory tour pics are way too cool! How did you get so lucky?

Do I see a 700 Comstock in MB? Whatever it is, it's beautiful. I'd love to see a close-up of that guitar.

Actually, I don't think I've ever seen a MB that isn't gorgeous.

If RIC is accepting orders on acoustics, I'm placing one!

These confluences are a fantastic way for forumites to get together and meet and play various instruments that they would otherwise only DREAM of playing....I can only hope more of these are in thew works. I am already planning on next year's vacation to have a couple of confluences stuck in there....
