yes, so much so that equating it with the weed of the 60's is incorrect and dangerous in that it leads to an underestimation of the damage today's pot is doing to today's kids. (or so I hear)

Well, lemme set the record straight on this...and not because of what I've heard, either. Yes, enterprising, intelligent humans have been hard at work for the last ten thousand years or so, and in addition to coming up with cats that can fit indoors and chase mice, and wolves that can herd sheep, they've also made improvements on the cannabis plant such that one does not now need to stand downwind of a bonfire made of a hundred pounds of the leaves in order to enjoy the favorable effects of the chemical compounds produced by this benevolent species. Along those lines, further strides in genetic manipulation have been made in the past couple of decades, so that the effects produced by smoking an entire quarter ounce of 'Mexican brown' in 1970 can now be experienced with a single 'toke' of the more 'potent' varieties in existence today. It would seem to be a step in the right direction, what with doing away with the need to clean the bong every other day, and saving all those matches for lighting barbecues, etc.

The real underestimation at work now is of the damage today's war is doing to today's kids. (or so I hear)

You may be onto something Dane. We should take the munitions bill for a year, buy tons of cannabis, and drop it on Iraq. Sammy Hagar would be headlining there within weeks.

I wish things could be solved so easily, J. Gary...for one thing, you could buy tons of cannabis with fifteen minutes' worth of the munitions bill. However, if you'll recall those brave freedom fighters and American allies of yesteryear, the Mujahadin...well, they were some hash smokin' fools, and apparently found it gave them the wherewithal to creep up the mountains at dawn and roll big boulders down onto Russian tank columns. I amuse myself at times imagining them rolling joints with pages out of the bibles Ronnie Raygun sent them as gifts...

See, the problem with hemp is that, for all the good it can do, it can't really fix a busted brain. Brains, like the most sophisticated computers we can design, only work as well as the 'scriptural software' that's been loaded into them...

****! As I don't know how to smoke,(yet), I've never experienced the plant. I was basing my theory on years in the bar wars. Seems there was little trouble from the smoke crowd. The drinkers however, YIKES!!!

I fear you are correct on the damaged goods point.

You know, those Mujahadin appear to be rather pleasant warriors. Rolling boulders onto tanks is much less disruptive and deadly vs missile or cannon fire. If I'm a tanker and a guy rolls a rock on me, I'm more inclined to yell at him rather than fire at him. That only applies if I don't have to pay for the tank.

J. Gary...if we ever have the chance, I'd be happy to turn you on to the mezz...You're right on the money as to the contrast between hemp and booze. I enjoy both in moderation, but I recall many times during my stints in Antarctica when ol' Jack Daniels or his pal Mr. Beam would make an appearance at a party and lead directly to stupidity, carnage and wrecked furniture/vehicles/careers, etc. Since the place was run in many ways like a Navy Base, there was never a shortage of booze, but boy, don't get caught with a roach or it's curtains for you...and anytime the wonderful plant made the scene it was all peace and tranquility. Pretty hypocritical, but hey, that's our gubmint. Hemp can't fix a busted brain, as I said, but booze will bust a perfectly good working one in an amazingly short period of time.

I don't know about the Mujahadin being pleasant warriors, however...if there could be such a thing, anyway. They do come across, much like Appalachian hillbillies, as guys who just want to be left alone to raise their poppies, goats and women the way they see fit...but I've heard some eyewitness accounts of their treatment of their young Russian "p.o.w.'s" that are anything but pleasant...

Dane, thanks for the kind offer. I'm afraid I'd go Cat Stevens if I ever danced with the plant. I have one of those personalities that when I like something, I REALLY like it, oh boy.

I'm thinking once they stopped the tanks, the process of removing the tankers got ugly. Something about a superpower rolling around your land in tanks that bunches up the old panties.

There aren't any Beatle songs that I dislike, but as for underrated, my picks would be:

"Nowhere Man"
"Getting Better"
"I Me Mine"
"Hold Me Tight"

I love all of those songs Brian. Well with the exception of "I Me Mine". I'll pass on that one if that's OK with you.

Keeping with the military super power and cannabis theme, (Ha) I still think, Yellow Submarine sucks the big one.

Really like "And Your Bird Can Sing", "N. Man", and "Getting Better".

"I Me Mine" is good, if not a bit depressing.

I think "Hold Me Tight" is mediocre and a little outta tune.

Great topic and now that I have parted with 30+ years of collecting Beatle records/memorabilia (over 57 14" x 14" boxes + 20 others)I certainly have some favourite tunes.

"Think For Yourself" always has bugged me. That fuzz bass just dates it and the lyric is condescending.

And the Paul songs on Side One of Help suffer greatly in comparision to the John songs. They are not bad, but their mediocrity is more prominent when placed next to John's masterpieces. (Paul makes up for it on side two though with two of his best songs).

IMO, this situation is reversed on Let It Be when John's songs sound mediocre next to Paul's classics (never knew why they left off "Don't Let Me Down" as it was John's best number at the time).

Wow, I'm amazed to see "Twist and Shout" on ANYBODY's less-listened to list. IMHO, Lennon's performance on that is one of the great rock vocals of all time... perhaps even the greatest.
