Are you sure you didn't mean hooker?

Baby, don't get hooked on me.
The first time ever I held and played a 4001 bass was in August 1972: this very rich kid in the southern coast of Portugal had a Rick 6-stringer and a Fireglo 4001, both brand new. I forget what amp & cab he had, but I do recall it was taller than me and it sounded huge. Playing a 4001 - which I knew "from reputation only" - was a dream come true: the looks, the playability, the TONE! I remember thinking "Oh, I get it now. The secret to the sound lies probably in those wedge-shaped saddles - they look like piezo pickups to me." Hehehehe!
In October 1979 I was able to buy me my first Rick bass, the used December '72 Fireglo 4001 I mentioned earlier in this thread.

I bought my first Rick in May of '06 after joining this forum about a month earlier. It was an '05 4003 I purchased it from PM Blues. I sold it about a month later because the neck was huge. My most recent purchase was about a week an a half ago...an amazing RED '89 4003. I now own seven!

I bought my new 66 335 Fireglo Rickenbacker along with an Altec Lansing speaker in 1969 for $250. I bought it at Mid County Music in Port Neches, Texas.
A few weeks later I got a used '67 Fender Deluxe Reverb for $50. I still have both.

First: Azureglo '74 4001 purchased sometime in 1980 - I still have it.
Most recent: New Fireglo 4003/S5 purchase in March 1998. I traded it in May 1998.

Welcome Hank! I think you are the first Hank on the forum. Rickenbackers seem to change a lot of poeple's lives.

Great combination of amp and speaker.
When did you get your first Ric?

Richard,
Should have noticed that you started this thread. I tend to skip to the last posts.

A 1991 330-12FG was my first, I unfortunately sold it around 2001. Then I replaced it with a 620-12JG nice but not comfortable, so I traded it in 2003 for my 360-12MG. The 330-12 was Fireglo but it was not very pink - it looked like a slightly lighter version of AFG.
It was my first RIC, and I wondered what was wrong with the Fireglo's I saw after that - I've never liked the pink cast.
