When I saw it at T's place, he practically gave me the ol' Spinal Tap routine of, "Don't touch that guitar, nobody touches that guitar, I don't even touch that guitar!
Aw, C'mon....I DID let you polish it didn't I Joey?

You guys had to see me when Jim Boyle played it!

I aged 30 years!

Sean, what a beautiful transformation! It must sound killer!
The grain is killer, I'm surprised to see that.

Great perspective. If my hands were that huge, then, yeah, maybe something like Tempus Fugit would be a 'for fun' exercise.

Only two left-handed copies made? Good thing security is on the job (another great photo)

Sean, that looks awesome! I hope you are leaving it as-is in Mapleglo!

Let me know if you ever want to part with it!
+1 on all accounts!

Beautiful Sean! Curious, is the fretboard vermilion or bubinga. Almost looks like bubinga with what I can see. The maple on this is like the maple on my V63, and the fretboard on my V63 almost looks like vermilion - not quite vermilion and not quite bubinga.

Yep I'm leaving it MG. The maple figure is just too nice.
It's a CS bass... the fingerboard and wings are Padauk/Vermilion. When I got down to bare wood on the wings I was amazed at how RED it was. The dust is actually a bright red that permanently stained my shop rags! While refinishing the fingerboard I left the original finish on the surface. Just a scraping and some light sanding between frets... since I didn't want to refret it. While sanding down the neck though I sanded the sides of the fretboard, to remove all the finish and to get rid of any fret sprout... since I hit bare wood you can see the colour difference. It too is RED. The wood however will quickly oxidize and become a medium/dark brown, as you see on the fretboard surface. In the few weeks since the finish was completed I can already see a difference.

Here's a pic where you can see the colour match, if you look at the wings and the side of the board. It's quite different from Bubinga actually. You can also see the grain filler that Ric used on the Vermilion. Very strange stuff... it's a translucent milky white and VERY hard. It's very difficult to remove. They chipped the wood at the G tuner hole (common with Padauk) and just filled it with the filler. The original wide flange bushings covered it, but my vintage bushings do not... I had to break out some touch up paint to use under the clearcoat.

Here's a shot of the back of the headstock... that ain't Walnut!

I think he did, but I'm not a Yes expert. I've seen a video using that one, but he can probably play it on the Rickenbacker, too. It was just the tune in my head at the time.

Anyway, I just think a Jazz neck would look like a banjo in his hands.

Yes, Mr. Scott...you're right. Chris DID use that bass for "Tempus Fugit".
I've seen him play it live with it(the exact model make/name escapes me at the moment)

The unique thing about that particular bass is...there were plug-in effects modules made for it.
So Chris wasn't running the bass through an Outboard flanger...it was a plug-in effect you were hearing.

WAY back in the day.....I seem to remember seeing an ad for that bass in some guitar magazine.

Oh, and YES Lefty4001.....there ARE 3 Left-Handed CS models out there. I have researched this and found 3....of course there could be more of them.............

It's an Electra MPC, and yes there's space in the rear of the body for two effects modules. For Tempus Fugit it's either a combination of octave + flanger or octave + phaser, I can't remember which offhand. The bass gets some good coverage and discussion on the Hot Licks Chris Squire DVD.

The thing I'd like to know is, is it full scale or short scale? It must be my eyes but most of the time when I look at it, it looks short scale but other times...

There you go, Sean! You buy your old white one from Paul, Paul buys my '71 Burg and I'll get the CS from you.
Everyone's happy!
