Greg, this is a great thread - many thanks for taking the time to post these fine pictures of George's guitar.

The Lennon pic you posted just doesn't look right to me at all - the slash hole looks photoshopped. The best verifiable original picture of Lennon with George's OS 12 which I've seen is the "milk" shot - I'm attaching it here in reasonable quality - hope you enjoy :D

The slash hole hasn't been photoshopped. The light is just casting a weird shadow inside the guitar.

....my eyes are not what they once were, but I don't see how a shadow inside the guitar would produce an effect like the one in the picture.

It's obvious to me. The brightness of the reflection off the face of the guitar is the same as the brightness off the wood inside the hole. If you look at the bottom curve of the slash, you can see the curve continuing, but it's very faint.

Looks like that's correct Rod; I've enlarged the picture as posted and I can now just make out that faint line. Would be nice to see a higher definition original which really shows the contrast. Anyone have one?

Not sure why anyone would Photoshop a sound hole anyways...if there was any monkey business it would be more likely that John's head would have been inserted over George's.

Exactly HOW rare are vintage 12 strings? CM107 is in such amazing shape....

It depends. From what I've seen and gathered, anything before 1966 is considered rarer than anything produced 1966 or later, from what I've seen. I've seen a slew of 12-strings, be it toilet seat or custom OS made in '66 and '67. I've seen a smaller handful made in '65 and very few made in '64. The only three I've seen from '63 are all mentioned here: Suzi Arden, Mike Campbell 620/12 CM108 and the main subject of this thread, CM107.

Collin Whitley is an expert at knowing vintage production. I'm shocked he hasn't seen this thread yet or even commented! After all, he is an OS fan.

I know right? All I have been thinking about since the beginning of this thread is what and when will Collin post!

+1

You guys need to get a new monitor (or spectacles..) it's pretty clear in the photo that it's a spotlight effect.

My ears were burning, heard my name?

I don't think I can live up to that reputation. :)

Obviously vintage 12-strings are rare, as discussed here many times. Other than the three in '63, most (if not all) 12-string models in '64 were Rose Morris, with the exception of a handful of NS 360/12 models from that first year.

I'd even say early '65 12-string models are rare, when compared to later production figures in the following three years.

Yep, if you squint hard enough you'll see a pair of dolphins jumping over a coral reef.

And if you cross your eyes just right, they'll be in 3D and look like they're jumping right out of your screen!
