Just about done... I wiped it down with some mineral spirits to show off the grain. This can be done on pretty much any 4003. The effect would not be as profound on a 4001 because the wings are so much more narrow.

Outstanding work, Ted. Marty's bass is bound - pun intended - to be another one-of-a-kind 4003.
Marty, I'll ship the pickups this coming tuesday.

What does Jared say?
Sure, I can do it. The downside is that bass will require a partial refin afterwards. I am not a finish expert but I think an overspray can hide the fact that a change was made. Dane?

Marty, the pickups are in the mail. To recap, the neck one is from my recently-acquired March 86 4003, and the bridge one is a resprayed, rewound high-gain from the late 70s. You'll have to procure the cover for the former and the mounting ring for the latter, though.

Hey Guys FANTASTIC!!
Sergio, again many many thanks. And just a note, I've been swamped with work and leave again for another "road trip" tomorrow. I can't wait to get back so I can start putting this baby together.
On my road trip I'm stuck on my PPC so... hard to check in here and view the graphics sometimes, but I will when I can. I return on 11/22...ugh... I HaTe the road!!
Cheers everyone!!
Marty
PS - There's going to be a surprise "touch" on the new 4003 gold custom pick guard! No fair tellin' Ted!

I really enjoyed doing those wings. It is very rewarding when it turns out that well. Every time I try something new like that I gain more respect for the designers and builders at RIC and the awesome job they do.

Although adding walnut wings is pretty extensive, it should be no big deal refin wise. It'll just need to be feathered into the neck. My guy does a whole neck for about $100.00 so something like that should be less. NICE work on the wings Ted. Did Marty want walnut wings originally or was that my idea? My upcoming 10-string project will have walnut wings too.
