I will try to post some more pictures and my comments when I get the guitar back.... I have a feeling the Curmudge is really busy with some other projects....

Today I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the big brown truck! I am so glad that the weather is now warm enough that I will be able to open my package right away.... I am on pins and needles, waiting for that knock on the door!

Melissa, from what we've seen already you should be a very happy camper! I'm sure the reunion with the 481 will be a great one.

John, although I was unable to locate new truss rods for your bass, I decided that we both had waited long enough and rebuilt your old rods last week. The bass was final-buffed (for the second time) and partially last night and will be completed today. It will be shipped tomorrow, so it's time for you to be a happy camper, too!!!

It is SUPERB. It is the color of all my Blueburst dreams, and it plays like a dream. The color is PERFECT. And the contrast of the white guards, TRC, and binding is stunning. The setup is great, and the guitar is now wonderfully playable.... It ROCKS. The humbuckers are incredibly hot, and it can growl as good as any Les Paul out there.... it sounds AWESOME, and looks it, too. It got a little workout in an impromptu blues jam with a friend this evening, and he loves it, too. Kudos to the Curmudge!

It is so incredibly beautiful now.... Finally, my Blueburst. Ahhhhhhhh, BLUEBURST!

The sun came out again late this afternoon, and I was able to get a few shots after all.....









The 220 and the 481 are both awesome blues guitars, and the colors are so appropriate! They sound awesome played together, as I found out in last night's blues jam session....

Thanks, guys. It's a fact of life, though, that pictures do not do these high-key colors justice. It's not just the colors of my own refinishes, either. It's factory colors, too. There's something about the camera's ability to capture the colors and the monitor's capability of reproducing them and transmitting them to our eyes.

I remember back in the '60s we would ALWAYS take slides, either Kodachrome or Ektachrome (depending upon the dominant color we were photographing--remember the Paul Simon song?), because they were much truer and more vivid than print dyes.

I still haven't been able to properly capture Melissa's Purpleburst, and this blue 481 has a depth that the above pictures only hint at. The MID blue 220 is closer for some reason--probably because it's an opaque metallic shade.

I just finished trying to photograph my dark BG refinish of John Simmons' '72 LH 4001...impossible again. Looks like mahogany under flash and like black without...Grrr...

Paul, your work is amazing. I think someday it would be a cool thing for you to put together a thread that would be a photographic scrapbook of some of the restorations that you've done. I would really enjoy checking something like that out and I'm pretty sure a massive percentage of our forum would love it as well.
