OK it’s here! Let me give a 2 second review and then I’ve got some playing to do. The wood on this bass is absolutely gorgeous the maple is lightly quilted which is what I like best. More like Scott’s red 4004 than the maple one shown on the Rick web site. The walnut sandwiched between the maple is unbelievable. The fretboard is gorgeous. The lack of walnut wings on the natural does take something away, however, it still looks great. The neck itself will take some getting use to. I wouldn’t classify it as chunky, but it’s definitely wider and thicker than my 4003 and there’s no comparison to my V63. I think I’ll adjust though. Speaking of, it’s time to go. Pictures and more detail to follow. This is one great bass. And by the way – it’s definitely a Rick!

Worth the wait, we’ll talk about that later.

Cheers

the 4004 is a different bass than a 4001/4003 ... but it is cool ... the fret board is a little wider especially as it joins the body ...

the 4004 has its own sound and it punches through the mix ... whenever I play out with it I get positive comments ... or they say, wow what kind of bass is that?

Yes, it most definitely is a different bass, but variety is the spice of life... Image

Congrats on having your new baby home and safe!

Do you suppose Andy let it acclimate for forty eight hours before he opened the box?

The box is gone - used it to clean what was left of the UPS guy.

I understand they have an opening!

Some more subtle change make to the Cii .The RIC web sight reads: ,” this exquisite bass is sculpted from solid Maple and Walnut, complemented by an Eastern Maple neck running the full length of the bass.” The specs say the fingerboard is Bubinga. The catalog that can with the bass reads: “ constructed from solid eastern rock maple (nice), complemented with walnut body laminations (?) and a rosewood fingerboard” (!!!).

Pics coming soon

cheers

I think I would order another one with jazz maple instead. Image

How thick are each of the layers of maple/walnut/maple? Mine is half and half, which makes for an interesting side profile.
