Well hello from the other side then! If you're on the South side of the lake, then you should be able to see the Sears tower on a very clear day. I'm a couple blocks East during the day.

What in SW Mich? I have a good friend who has relatives in South Haven, and a good friend of mine is in Zeeland (happens to be one of the best bluesmen in the region.)

Kalamazoo is home, we are staying in a condo in South Haven. Jeff - SH is too far north to see the Chicago skyline. I have seen the buildings after sundown from Michigan City, IN, though.

Glenn, Zeeland is about 25 or so miles north of South Haven.

Love the Gold Coast of Michigan!!

More pics of Mr. Boyer's "Mink" bass, as it hung yesterday following its first four coats of amber-tinted conversion varnish.

The color is fairly accurate in these pictures (depending on how well your monitor's color temp is adjusted)--it runs from a deep brown at the edges to a lilac pastel at the center.

I'll be posting more as it comes together. I'll be delivering this one to Paul at the 75th.

NOTE that the varnish has a pebbly texture on the larger flat surfaces. This is normal as coats are built up one on another. The flatting process that goes on as part of the color sanding and buffing process, will reduce the surface to the flatness of glass.

More later, as the bass is flatted and then receives another four double-coats of untinted varnish. Then it's time to color-sand, buff and assemble. There will be some surprises when this one nears completion...
