How did you get all this finish cracks in there???

Sorry to answer so late....The finish checking was in the bass when I received it.
I think it adds to the vintage look.

Yes it is a RI Horseshoe. I've had it for a couple years now and finally have used it on a worth while project.

That's beautiful, Ian. It blends nicely with the walnut wings.

This may be a bit extreme for the purists, (but i do also own a stock 4001). I didn't do this myself, the name of a San Diego custom shop is in the control cavity. I bought this one at a local pawn shop! I do like the replacement quilted maple top, Active EMG's and w/b/w binding. the instrument still has a distinctly Rickenbacker tone, which leads me to believe that the construction of these basses, rather than the pickups, has a strong role in "the sound" .

I've got to say, Martin, that is one HOT 4001 mod. I love everything about it, especially the no cavity look as sported by the newer 4004 series basses. sa-WEEET!!

Ian, cool! It is amazing what a pickguard alone can do to an instrument!
Martin, Welcome to the forum. Love the hybrid 4001/4004 look. Great color scheme as well!
