Ricks just have a certain uniqueness to them which draws people in like a moth to lights at night.
When I bought my amp head from GC this past winter I knew I'd get attention if I brought my white 75 4001. Sure enough, most of the sales guys ran over to check it out. The younger guys said the obligatory ooohs and aaahs, the older guys said "I remember those, can I bang on that for a few minutes?" and all were in awe. I guess I am spoiled, since I have had it for years and just take it for granted. Times like this make me rethink that state of mind.
We have the Hall's to thank for their dedication and devotion to the Rickenbacker company to keep cranking out quality instruments.
As an aside, when did FC Hall take control of Rickenbacker, when he still ran Radiotel, afterwards or......As I recall he did distribution for Fender in the 50's as well...
Thanks

It has a bit of a sad history that I forgot to mention. I got it when I bought a case on ebay a couple years ago. The case had some pleasant surprises inside that the previous owner told me to keep(A bunch of 4001 hardware). I asked him what happened to the bass. He told me that his cat knocked it off the stand and the headstock broke off. He brought it to someone to fix it but it was a bad repair, it was never the same and it irritated him. So at the end of a show he finished the bass off in a Pete Townsend-style smash-fest! End of '77 4001.
Glad you could make use of one of its transplanted organs!

I got the jack plate just in time. This was the night before the SoCal confluence.
It's previous owner routed the inside for a homemade preamp, so it needs a little wood added to the cavity to hold a pickguard screw.
I installed the jack plate then wired it that night so I could display it at the confluence.
I missed taking a picture of it at the confluence!

That's a sad story Jeff. The output jack plate now has a renewed start at making music.
I just have to get this bass a piece of wood for in the cavity and a nice Pickguardian pickguard. The original pickguard had been cutaway for the homemade preamp. I only got the half that held the neck pickup. That is an afternarket pickup that I won't say where I got it, but I'll never buy a pickguard of that particular brand again.
I didn't get the preamp, not that I would have wanted it anyway.
