cjj wrote:OK, here are a couple more. I'd forgotten about this, I should have measured my 2009 4003 while I had it...

Anyway, my '76 4001 AG & '84 4003 MG:
Measurements are in cm

Girth: '76 '84
1st: 11.139 11.679
3rd: 11.653 11.965
12th: 13.203 13.324

Front to Back:
'76 '84
1st: 2.419 2.475
7th: 2.350 2.428
12th: 2.400 2.456
16th: 2.465 2.428

Width: '76 '84
Nut: 4.200 4.249
12th: 5.320 5.363
I was just looking at the spread sheet, I should add a bit more data about my entries so they have everything:
1976-11 4001 Azureglo
1984-06 4003 Mapleglo
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

1967 4001 (in cm)
1st 10.8
3rd 11.2
12th 12.6

1986 4003
1st 11.0
3rd 11.3
12th 13.0

It is amazing to me the different feel that just a couple of cm makes. That '67 is so slim!

Thanks to all for the measurements - they have been added to the database. Since Jeff Scott's friend was kind enough to give RRF an FTP site, I now have the database located there. That place will now be the repository, and the one on my site will be gone.

Tony, I wish I could make SERF.... just too much going on at work to be able to go. Oh, and there is a section on 4004 basses.

Matt, yours are now in also - if I deserve any credit it is only for making the database. Jeff Thomas conceived taking the measurements and posting them.

And Bob, yes, pics of the '67!

Holy sh** that's quite a difference. Wish you had a 2007 also so I could get an idea what it was like compared to your 08. My 2007 and 2008 are exactly the same in terms of neck profile and just over 1 year apart from each other in date of origin.

You do deserve credit, John for conceiving a better way to list and store the data! High five from me! (smack!)

Do people still give high five's, or is that soooo twenty years ago?! :?

And btw, The Oct 2008 4003MID above surprises me. That really is a small neck!

I'll have to measure some more of mine soon.

Surprising, isn't it? Needless to say I was surprised and somewhat disappointed at the chunkiness of the '09 FG I checked out when I bought the MID. They had another '08 MID with similar neck dimensions although a bit narrower and thicker front to back. I went with the one that had a broader fretboard and more D-shaped feel to it... The differences between the two MID necks were the sort of subtle variations I expected between hand-made instruments.

Oh good!

But wait...she's only 3 years old?...Where did she learn to high five? Was it from her parents?

That may negate the whole thing. :|

If she likes Led Zeppelin because you listen to it, is it in vogue with the "new generation?"

Uh-oh...Now I've confused myself!

:?
