I was also interested but, hesitated after seeing some of the forum comments. Mostly Dale's about it being a refinish, plus the seller's lack of communication led me to believe there will be some surprises to the winner.
Hopefully I am wrong.

I am just glad it worked out well for everyone

My main concern was the Fish Eye markings on the peghead. No instruments ever came out of the Rick factory with those type of marks. This usually designates a refinish of poor quality. Plus the H.S.'s were missing. For the pickup to work it has to have those or a replacement magnet of some type. With out the shoes it's just another point against it. Still it was a very rare piece well worth the sale price. If I'd of had 8K extra, I would have bid....

After reading some of these posts. If I were the seller, I would find a nice new 2x4, ask the Ex to come over, hand the 2x4 to her, and mention that her outfit makes her butt look big.

Refin or no, I agree with John B & am surprised this went for so little. The seller really hasn't done himself any favours at all. IIRC Bob Atherton mentioned a 73 being sold a while back by Vintage and Rare in the UK for not far off that. But then that's the UK for you I guess....

I second that, Shaun.

I would have gotten in on it, but the big problem for me was, well, the price.

No doubt, the seller screwed himself by not communicating.
I'm happy to see this go as low as it did...
These people don't seem to realize that if you're gonna fork over a ton of money, you want as much accurate information as possible. They seem to be offended if you don't just "trust them" and give them record-breaking amounts for their "RARE!!!"
"VINTAGE!!!" stuff.

Bah Humbug, it was right-handed anyway. Useless wood.

I briefly spoke to the new owner today via e-mail. After he gets it and with his final permission to talk about it, I'll get the low down on the bass for the forum.

I can't wait to hear what the real deal is.

That is the biggest mistake ebay sellers make: poor communication that is if they are honest, it makes the deal seem fishy and it often is.
If I ask a question about a supposed flaw I see in something, basses or receivers, and I get no response I assume I was correct in the first place and the seller not wanting to lie is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I too will be interested in the conclusion here.
The headstock marks almost look like indentation to me. Someone 40 years of tuning up with a handful of heavy rings on maybe?
If it is original, it's a steal, and even if not, still a good buy.
One thing for the certain, the seller had no clue how to sell a high end bass, and it's cost him.
