Yeah, well, that kind of gets to the whole point of the 30 post rule - the forum isn't really a place to buy and sell instruments. The Marketplace is there as a convenience to let members buy and sell, but shouldn't be the main focus of membership.
And yeah, you're not going to find stuff for sale at ridiculously low prices in the Marketplace. Heck, we're not stupid, why would anyone "give" guitars away to members when they can just as easily sell them on ebay for the going rate? The main benefit of the Marketplace is that you have (hopefully) at least some small assurance that you'll be dealing with an honest person because they are at least somewhat known to the forum membership. And hence, another reason for the 30 post rule, to let folks know a bit about someone before they can buy and sell on the forum...

First, I'm not sure if your post is favorable or unfavorable... maybe I'm reading too much into it?
Second, the 30 post thing is just for the marketplace. Newbies still have access to all the informational sections you benefitted from. So, again, I'm unclear on what you're getting at.
i do notice alot of literal readings here, so i'll remember that for future comments. it was favorable and just illustrating that participation isn't asking that much and there are plenty of areas to add comments other than "cool" or "+1". the other stuff is tongue-in-cheek hyperbole ("Leftee Onlee Shoppe") and since we don't know one another, it does read both ways.
someone had the right perspective in that the Marketplace is a nice feature, but not the raison d'etre.
keep up the good work

I'm not planning on selling any of my Rics, but getting up to the 30 posts means I have more time to save up for my next Ric! Has there been instances of unscrupulous sellers of the Forum?

Yes. While we bear no responsibility for transactions generated through participation in the forum, there have been instances of foul play that have been brought to our attention.
That is precisely the reason why we we have given members the opportunity to get to know new members through their posts. The opportunities presented here to sell to or buy from a community of friends almost always proves to be a good experience, but there have been the rare exceptions. Sad to say that greed and dishonesty is not limited to new members. Members need to stay on their toes at all times.

THATS IT!!!! I've had it !!!
.....this 30 post rule is totally backfiring. We need to up that figure to 200+
If I have to read another 30 two-word, substance-free posts by new members solely to gain access to the marketplace, I'm going to leave this forum. This week's offender is "treewalker" who spat out 30 mostly worthless posts to gain access, and we all have to sift through it while interesting posts are otherwise buried.
I don't want to sound like a curmudgeon (we have a resident one of them!

) I am just sick of seeing this phenomenon every couple days, and our 30+ rule, which was initially lowered as a courtesy....is now bring abused at our expense.
People (and Treewalker, this means you)....you may gain quick access to the marketplace with useless posts, but you burn many bridges in the process, and it's a bad way to start out in this
forum community.

We did initially set the requirement at 100 posts as the minimum, but.................ah well, enough said, maybe we had better reconsider and go back to that number.

you should also add a membership time requirement (3 months?) otherwise you may end up with 100 useless posts. Adding a time requirement will deter the "gotta have it now" attitude to access the marketplace to score some $500 basses

Seems most of this sort thinks there's some wondrous pile of Ricks for sale for next to nothing and wants to gain access just to get in on all of the good deals. I'm, guessin' he won't stick around too long once he figures out that people on this forum aren't stupid enough to be giving away Ricks...

Bianca joined March 31st, 2011, and made 5 posts up through May 6th, until today with all these other posts. Perhaps she has some money to buy a Rick with, or has one to sell now.
