Those knobs are Fender or Fender spec knobs. Although similar to the RIC vintage knobs, they are not the same.

Ah, but the best part of those knobs is the custom alignment!

Funny that! I bought them from Mike Parks a few years ago, part #03573; so what you are saying is that he is selling Fender items as RIC parts? :?: :?

It must be the custom alignment that is the Fender spec!

In the pic of the FG bass, it looks like the slightly skinnier version of the knob, which is the Fender version, which often has a brass insert where the shaft slides in. I could be wrong since it's only a pic, but it sure looks like them. Is that your bass too Jeff?

Yes, it used to be my bass, a July '73. It is back to the original insert knobs and treble pickup (the RI HS pickup was sold to a forumite), and now resides with a friend. Sounds great and plays like a dream but when I got my March '73 4001 I decided to let it go as it was close to duplicating the March bass.

I understand the Fender misidentification as the photo posted is not hi-res enough to make out details well. :) 8)

Paul, in my experience, there is not a whole lot of difference in output or sound between a current higain or a RIHS. Maybe a tad more clarity in the RIHS, think toaster-type tone rather than the darker higain, but not much difference between the two IMHO.

Don't see the RIHS on the boutique any more. I wonder if RIC has exhausted the supply?

John, while John Luke is re-reading the thread, could you please read the PM I sent you yesterday?

Read the whole thread.

The thread, the whole thread, and nothing but the thread?

Anyway, it arrived today. But I have a backlog myself. Tomorrow I have scheduled some time to take pics of my 4004/2 v57 that Dane crafted for me. The RIHS installation in my 4003 will have to wait. Looking at how it is made, no RWRP possible. Dang. I got so used to the quietness of my 4003.
