the luthier who set up my 4005 in 1992 put a SIT round wound set 40-60-80-100 and I suppose he set up the neck tension for those strings... since the SIT strings are hard to find even in Rome, I switched into cocco strings stainless steel round 40-60-80-100 not wanting to have problems with truss rod...the neck is really straight with a nice low action

ECB80 or ECB80SL? or maybe the ECB81

Rest assured that there'd be no problems happening to the 4005 rods if you change string brands and gauges as long as they are light tension ones. Being in the same 40-60-80-100 gauge, the Cocco and SIT strings probably have different tension anyway. You won't damage your 4005's neck as long as you know how to adjust the old rod system correctly.

- I had supposed that the cocco and sit maybe have different tension even being both 40-100, although the action hasn't changed and the neck is still straight
- adjusting the rod system is something I don't wanna do since I am not sure I am able to do that correctly...I don't think there's a luthier here around who have ever seen a 4005 or worked on an instrument like that. My bass is something like a martian starship here in Rome

The ECB 80 set will work just fine, I use that on my 4005WB but I exchange the stock D string for a CB 055 to better balance the set.

If you want, send your 4005 to me and I will take care of the set up for you, or better yet, come to the RIC Confluence mid May in Columbus, Ohio and we can all fix it for you. As you know, you can never have too many cooks in the kitchen!

BTW the SIT string company is just about 30 miles south of me in Akron, Ohio.

I realised that the bass has a 45/65/80/100 at the moment (I thought it was a 40/60/80/100) so I think I am gonna try the ECB81 45/65/80/100 which is a little stronger than yours...I guess it'll be still lighter than the RW I use now, if you can confirm that.
I'd really love to join the RIC confluence in may...it'd be really nice to meet all of you but it's a long distance for me at the moment... and no, the bass do not travel alone LOL...anyway if you may show up here it'd be a pleasure for me to play some music together

Flatwound strings are generally higher in tension than roundwound strings, which is why I recomment the lighter set, it may match the tension you have now pretty closely.

Some day I'd like to get to Italy, but I would need to go to Maranello and visit the holy shrine there!
