I thought that '75 was the transition year for 1 inch spacing. Wouldn't all '73s be half inch?

You are correct , Ted.
Mine was fitted with that mirrored chrome p/g, but with 1" spacing......it ALMOST stopped me from bidding, but as it turned out, hardly anyone bid on it and I got it for less than a grand!! I was a little down on it for a while, but after changing from TI flats to the the CHROMES, well....that really helped the neck and the sound and now it's safely nestled in my 4005/Shadow/Hofner/ DO NOT SELL catagory!! Very slim neck and a pleasure to play...I might have it refinished , though...

Henny,
I was just attempting to point out that Instrument Exchange typically starts their auctions at a price way above what the item is actually worth...

Paul, I was thinking the same thing about the GC bass that's on the 'bay right now....that p/g is hiding some whittling, I bet!!

How right you guys are.
I got the 73 Ric today, a day late from FedEx, and I'm not
happy. The overall condition of the finish isn't too bad. This guitar must
have been a real player. The MOP inlay on the E side of the 3rd fret has completely been ate
through the lacquer exposing the MOP material. The frets are really worn
from the 5th down to the 1st. I took the pickguard off and I was not really
surprised. It looks like someone took a dremel tools to hack out the body to
re-position the neck pickup. **** poor job, and the original toggle switch
assembly has been replaced, along with the knobs. I plugged it in and the
treble tone was scratchy. Needless to say this bass has seen it's share of
action.
I called Guitar Center, to see if they would knock off a few hundred bucks
and the guys said, "just send it back we will sell it on the floor for that
price". Good luck.
So, they are going to refund my shipping since FedEx was late, and I will be
returning it. I should have known better not to do business with GC. That
will be the last time. Only good thing about this is I am able to return it.

Bob, before you return it, you should swap out the aluminum three bolt bridge for a later one. C'mon, this is GC we're talkin' about.

I wish I would have thought of that Dane.
Actually, I just finished packing it. I am shipping it back just the way it came to me.
Single boxed, about 4 inches of nothing between the edge of the box and the case. Just flopping around in there. I am surprised it arrived in one piece.
