I'm glad I'm not the only one Chris. I use it as a master tone, but it's use really comes into its own when you are using different gtrs in a live set up. Instead of having to go to the amp & change the tone controls, a quick dial of the 5th knob & you're sorted. It really does make it easy to balance different gtrs through the same rig on the same night!
'Rickenbacker'...what a name! After all these years, it still thrills me.

The 5th knob is just an additional volume control for the bass (neck) pickup.

I have a 340, I usually have all 3 pickups on, and the the 5th control is the only one I ever adjust, all others are maxxed.
