Jeff ,try a c64 sometime talk about thin neck it feels like a 60s neck.

If you think those are thin, come to the RIC Confluence and feel really thin necks!

I believe the early 90 4003's have thinner necks than the late 90's and on. I have a 96 with a thin neck and had a 93 with a thin neck. They also are all a little different as they are hand sanded. That being said I have a 2000 with a so-called thick neck and love it. You play them, you'll get used to them. I have a flat neck 72 and for me it is too thin although after a few minutes I adjust to it. It's all relative, I bought an upright last summer and it felt like a tree trunk at first, but now it feels normal, I can go from a Ric to the upright with no problem, stop yer bitchin!

Bob's spot on - after a while of playing my upright any Rick's neck feels like a toothpick!
