Scott - Now that you mention T series, I believe it was a T-40.

Since you asked about the story...In the early 80's I played bass in a group from the lower east side of NYC called The Mad Violets. The singer was a local legendary performer named Wendy Wild.

One day, coming back from rehearsal, we stopped at the loft of an artist she knew. She had him look at the bass because she felt it was kinda plain looking. She thought he could paint something on it to liven it up. He agreed, but I declined because I didn't want to get the paint on myself when I was playing it.

The artist was Keith Haring.

Oh well...

'86 Hurricane EXB-1 Bass, Gray (soundman once told me he'd burn it if he saw it again, it's that bad)
'91 Fender Strat MIM (played rhythm guitar in first band)
'94 Ric 4003 JG (logged so many hours on it, I wore the frets down)
'94 Gibson Les Paul Studio (my #1 guitar for years)
'94 Fender USA Stat
'96 Ric 4003 FG (sold... d'oh!)
'96 MusicMan Stingray 4
'97 MusicMan Stingray 4
'94 PRS CE-22 Guitar (sold)
'99 Fender Jazz MIM (strung B-E-A-D)
'99 Ric 4003 JG
'99 Martin D-1 Acoustic Dreadnought Gtr
'00 Ric 4003 MG (recorded band's first CD with)
'03 Ric 4003 Midnight Blue (current #1 bass)
'04 Ric 660/12 Turquoise (current #1 guitar)

I still have most of them and find reasons to play most of them now and then. The 2 Fender Strats, the fretworn '94 4003, and that horrible gray bass are the only ones I never touch, but they all have sentimental value, especially the 4003 that I learned most of what I know on.

Marc, that would have been the world's first $100K Rick.

But you know that and don't want to hear about it, I know...

My first was a Sears short scale plywood bass given to me by my parents so they could see if I had real interest (gave it to a buddy in a local original metal band to smash on stage after a gig). After I stuck with it they bought me a ....

Quest Attack B1 (a sharpened P-Bass knock-off)....still have
....then bought by me....
'73 Ric 4001 sold it around '93 due to stupidity and massive fret wear
'93 4003 MG still have
'84 USA BC Rich Mockingbird sold when I was hardup for cash due to pending divorce
'97 4003 Midnight Blue....still have
'95? 4003s5 MG/BT sold due to tight string spacing
'87 4003 SPC Tuxedo.....sold it due to it not fitting in for some reason
'98 4003s8 JG.....still have.

My list of amp gear would be much harder to recall.

What happens when you only start playing the guitar in 2002:

- POS Tradition classical guitar (dig the painted fretboard that cause my fingers to go black if I touch the thing).
- 2001 Fender American Stratocaster Sunburst
- 2005 Rickenbacker 360/6 VP Fireglo

I think it will take me awhile to catch up to you chaps.

Jeff, your post gives me the same feeling I get when I recommend a new book to a friend, having already read everything the author has written. I think, "what a lucky guy! He gets to do it all for the first time!"

Good luck and may GAS strike soon.
