I'm not yet a Ric owner (stil waiting for my 660/12) but wanted to suggest you check out G&L guitars. G&L was Leo Fender's last company. The guitars are made at the original Fender factory with much hands-on attention. Beatiful wood, finish, and craftsmanship. I have a G&L ASAT Classic semi-hollow body (tele style) that I love. They can be had fairly cheap from Ebay. Although I custom ordered mine to get exactly what I wanted. Highly recommended.

Simon, I have a Godin Exit22, and an LP Deluxe as my second fiddles. Actually, the Exit22 is my main 6 string (660/12 is main guitar) and the LP is third string, used only when I absolutley need the LP tone.

The Exit22 is probably one of the best "bang for the buck" working guitars out there. It has many personalities, witha neck that is the closest in playability as my 660 that I have ever tried. It is fast, versatile and gorgeous. If you can, go try out the Exit22, it will genuinely surprise you.

I got talked in to trying it at a store where I was considering a really beat up 90's 330 (price was WAY too high and he wouldn't budge). The owner got down the Exit22 and plugged it into a Bassman RI. I was stunned/blown away/shocked. I also left with it, and use it at every gig, jam, session. Highly recommended.

I second Red Rob's Gretsch recommendation. They don't make me obsess like Ricks do, but when they're good, they're a great counterbalance for jangle.

One of the guys to whom we first sold a JangleBox uses it with his Tele... he told us we should have called the unit "TwangleBox". lol!

I'm going to get my third Rick (360/6) before anything else but when the eagle sh**s I'm gonna get the Gretsch G6128T-1962 double cutaway solid body that I was looking at in the first place (down to $3399 at the moment). Also probably a Tele and if the money streeeeeeetches far enough, an ES-335 Dot reissue.

Then again, maybe a fourth Rick would be nice.........

Since I got the 330/6 and 660/12, the others stay in their cases, except the Yamaha APX5A electric/acoustic - great guitar for the money!!

The G6122 '59 Nashville, though a single cutaway, sounds better IMO. But if you must have a Duo-Jet, go for it!

And the Pro Jets, at 1/3 the price, sound 80% as good...

Simon, my Carvin is a great guitar! It's a semi-hollowbody, neck-thru with both humbucker and acoustic pickups. It can be all electric to hybrid to a very good acoustic tone.

Er...... Dane: Yeah, perhaps I should have used the 'sulphur-crested cockatoo' but we do have a wedge-tailed eagle here - beautiful creature!!

As I understand it, royalty doesn't s**t - their loyal subjects do it for them!!

Paul: The 6122 series are great guitars but I don't want a body that large - 17" versus 13.5" for a Duo Jet. Not a big fan of the Synchromatic series. However, I'll consider the options (including what's available and what the waiting time might be) when the time comes. Played a White Falcon a few weeks ago - like having a coffee table strapped to your chest!!

Yeah, Howard--gotcha. Just picked up a Pro Jet (Electromatic) and I'm trying to decide if I'm gonna keep it Price was sooo low I couldn't pass it up. That's the 13.5" body, too.

It's the damned thickness of those White Falcons. Jeez. And they are so subtle! Kind of reminds me of the Merry-Go-Round at the end of Brighton Pier.

I'm clam-happy with my 6117. Twang!

Playing my Ricks is like goin' to church, though. A religious experience.

Paul, have you tried a deep body double cutaway Gretsch? the one thing that disappoints me about my single cutaway Gretsch is the reduced high fret access. I have been wondering if a DC might improve that (think 6120DC a al Lennon Rubber Soul)

How about a Gibson Melody Maker(Reissue?)You can dial up a wide variety of sounds from tele twang to Gibson grrrrl.Very simple guitar one vintage P-90,one tone control,set neck.Very light. You can find used ones on Ebay for $225-$300.Awesome little guitar and one of the best deals for a real american guitar.

My 6117 is a 2 1/2" deep body on a 16" lower bout.

The White Falcon 6136 is a 17" and a 2 3/4" deep body.

The 6120DC is a 15 3/4" X 2" deep body.

Sooo, what I have is a deep body, single-cutaway. Fret access (at least from the bottom) is the same as a 6120DC--14th fret, I believe. My own playing technique doesn't require the top cutaway most of the time.

Ther neck heel is very close to identical on both guitars. Why not try a 6120 DC and let us know how you fare?
