I was going to surprise you. Actually, I'm booked with projects now, but as I complete the rewiring of my Sherwood Green Duo-Sonic, I am now contemplating doing a J-Bass to match.

But that black fretless has me thinking in another direction too. I wonder which one will win out?

Try the black fretless. Not very often you see an all black bass, blackstar included. You're right about the horizontal element of the bass. I would have to do it fretted or lined but you might be able to pull off the fretless unlined. 22 fret range on it too. And you don't even have to have the "fenderesque" headstock and do it 2+2. I'm used to the 2+2 headstock anyway. The Rick has it, my old 5 string had 3+2, and the custom I'm getting has 2+2. But IMHO without the Fender headstock it just isn't a J bass.

Hey, they come with tuners! I just looked at the Moses site and they come with tuners.

Yeah, you know, with top dot markers, you don't need lines anyway. That black bass is getting to me. Let me investigate getting the parts together.

Another project.

Nothing wrong with another project. Good point about the markers. Here are the prices for the standard stuff (no shipping). Neck: $395, hipshot "clovers": $106 for four, control plate: $35, pickguard: $50, neck plate: $7.05, badass: $80, string retainer: $2.76. Total = $675.81.

EEK!! I'm really going to have to save.... and that's not counting the other bass. I need a job!
