Music is SO subjective, what one group of people might be loving, another group might think it is BS.
I think we need to have a moratorium on the yelling of "Free Bird". I've wanted to play it just to shut that one person up, but then again, I dont wanna sit thru 10 minutes of it onstage.

Follow Up: Back to rehearsal at the guitarists house. The 4004 L with RW's on it sounded great. I'm beginning to really suspect the acoustics at the bar. They DID clean the place up a bit (or so the guitarist claimed)...the lack of dirt might have played a role?

Actually, the drummer did complain about not hearing much behind his kit, and the monitors suck at this gig...everyone who heard us said we sounded great. Everyone I asked said my bass sounded good.

These stock rounds seem to be keeping their feel for longer than I expected/feared, so I'm doing nothing right now. The idea of flats...well that's probably not going to go away, since I'm like Bob, a flats guy when all is said and done.

Back in the mid '70s I was in an acoustic duo. We played this club in Chagrin Falls, Ohio where someone yelled out to us to play Freebird. We told him to come back the following week (this was a regular gig) and we played it for him with two acoustic guitars, and not only that, we segued from the ending solo into Wurm from Starship Trooper!

I'm not what you'd call a violent person...but I didn't know the fellow at the time, and when I met him at an R.E.M. event years later, and he told me that he was the guy who yelled that, I hit him in the gut. We were both drinking, you see. No hard feelings.

That performance may actually see the light of day at some point - it was recorded at the famed 40 Watt Club in Athens, I think on multi-track, and we pretty much kicked *** that night.

R.E.M. was a bad cover band ... but they do good originals ...

Back in the early 70's (supposedly, according to a good source) every one was yelling for Whipping Post at concerts at Mothers concerts. Frank Zappa hears it so much he asked his band members' What is this "whipping Post? They played it for him and the band learned it and played a kick *** version of it, one of my friends saw them do it.

"Play something you know!" haha! I like that one.
I still like "hey you guys play anything good?" Especially when you are doing originals.

I vaguely remember a Zappa album that had Whipping Post on it...it's not in my collection, but it seems like I remember listening to it.

Whipping Post is on the "Them and Us" CD. They do a great version.
