Anthony, these are great points, again, I'll probably never know. Makes me wonder, however, why they don't put toasters on a 620 as the default configuration. If it's as you describe, the sound of a 620 with hi-gains might be muddy compared to a 330 or 360 with hi-gains.

Not the case Steve, as you are comparing a solid body with a hollow & you would expect the solid body to be a little 'harder' in sound!

Gotcha, I personally love the sound of my 360/12VP, I might agree that the tonal range is not as great as with the hi-gains, but for the sound it makes, it is great. I have never played a Ric solid body, I'd personally be very curious as to how a 360/12VP sounds, compared to a 660/12. That is comparing a semi-hollow 24-fret to a solid-body 21-fret, both with toasters. Kind of hard to write about sound, huh?

Speaking of TV shows, Larry, I couldn't help but notice your name, you wouldn't be friends with the Beaver, now would you?

OK...so why did RIC go to 24 fret necks in the first place?

I would imagine Cole, that it was to keep up with the musical trend of the '70's to push the bounderies of playing to include soloing at an unreasonably high pitch!

Larry and the Beaver parted ways long ago. Even Ken Osmond (Eddie Haskell) is an LA cop!

To hear a HiGain-equipped Ric with 24 frets (340 Desert Gold) used for a solo in the upper register, go here:
http://www.myspace.com/noelchristianriddell

Listen to 'Desert Ship'. Intro licks are low on the neck, the solo at around 2:20 is WAY up there.
Rics sound nice with Ebow too...

You can compare it to the solo sounds of a 1997SPC (with Toasters) on 'Glow' and a 650A (with HB1s) on 'Double Argent'.
